Drivers will have a 14-mile diversion as a bridge is put in place, a week later than originally planned.

Closure is from 8pm tomorrow until about 10am on Sunday in both directions between junction 2 at Coven Heath and junction 3 near Albrighton.

It comes three months after a 50-ton skeleton of a bridge arrived at the i54 business park, Fordhouses.

It replaces one in Middle Lane giving access to waste water treatment works also used as a footpath and a bridleway. The existing bridge will stay open until its replacement is completed.

The old bridge has to move for a £36.7 million slip road to connect the M54 with the i54, where Jaguar Land Rover is building a £355 million engine plant and creating 750 jobs.

Diversions will be on the A449 to Gailey, onto the A5 and then the A41 to get back to Junction 3 – an overall journey of about 14 miles.
