Drivers face six months of traffic misery when a major route through Dudley town centre closes on Monday.

Wolverhampton Street will close for 26 weeks during the final stage of an 18-month project across 64 roads.

The road was already shut on and off for four months last year and it comes after part of another main route, Trindle Road shut in May for five weeks.

Dudley Council says the work by utility firms will be completed in four phases. The first will see it close from the junction of Southalls Lane to Stafford Street, and then it will close from Stafford Street to Grange Road.

Advance warning signs will be in place and signed diversion routes will be in operation.
