Drivers will face a month of delays while work goes ahead on the A5 between Brownhills and Cannock.
New traffic lights will be put in place and the pedestrian crossing improved but it will mean lane closures.
The work will take place on the A5 at the junction with Whitehorse Road and The Parade in Brownhills. Work gets under way on Monday and will run throughout the summer, likely to finish on September 7, being carried out between 9am and 4pm but diversions will be in place.
The Parade will close on Sundays between 9am and 1pm.
Jessica Kenny, Highways Agency project manager, said: "These essential works will improve road conditions for motorists and pedestrians.
"The work has been carefully planned to keep disruption to a minimum and we will do our utmost to complete them as quickly as possible."
Meanwhile, work on the M54 will see a temporary exit open up leading from the motorway to the building site where a £1.5 million bridge will be put together.
Around 240 tons of steel will travel into the region via the M5 and M6, to be transferred along the M54 and off via the temporary exit between junction two Wolverhampton and three Albrighton.
Drivers have been warned of disruptions during the 22-week project to install the bridge, which is the first step towards a major overhaul of transport links to the i54 business park and is hoped to be completed in December.
The first closure of the motorway, to junction three, will take place overnight Saturday through to Sunday. Motorists will be diverted along the A449, A5, and A41.
County Council spokesman Cristian Marcucci said two steel bridge beams were among the load, to be delivered. Both are 147.6ft long, 5ft deep and each weigh 25 tons.
