Six weeks of roadworks were starting in Kingswinford today – sparking fears from nearby traders that their businesses could be hit by the disruption.

The £1 million water companies scheme will see new sewer pipes installed in Stallings Lane to prevent it from flooding.

The road has been closed to traffic from Charterfield Drive to the entrance to the industrial estate, near KFC, further up the road.

A short length of Ham Lane is also closed for sewer pipes to be replaced.

But bosses at some firms along the route have spoken out against the work.

They said they had little information about the work and were concerned the closures could cause delays for delivery lorries visiting their sites.

It comes as a scheme to replace old water and gas pipes in Pensnett also got under way.

From today a one-way system will be in place on High Oak with traffic only able to enter from High Street.

Dudley Council has also announced a further roadworks scheme in Mason Street, Coseley.

Old gas pipes are being replaced with new plastic ones and the work, which starts on Friday, is expected to take 10 weeks.
