Amazon has unveiled its latest tablet designed for children, which comes with pre-approved and age-appropriate content as well as parental controls for access to games.

The Fire HD 10 Kids Edition is the same device as the tech giant’s standard flagship Fire HD 10 tablet, but also includes a protective case and a year’s subscription to the firm’s Fire for Kids Unlimited service, which includes more than 5,000 books, videos and educational apps and games.

The £200 tablet will go on sale on July 11, Amazon said.

“Our Fire Kids Edition tablets provide the perfect balance of offering age-appropriate content kids love and tools parents trust, and we’re thrilled that customers have made us the number one best-selling kids’ tablets in the UK,” Amazon’s director of kids and family, Kurt Beidler said.

“Our latest kids’ tablet, the all-new Fire HD 10 Kids Edition, is the largest and fastest kids tablet we’ve ever offered, with a beautiful 10.1in 1080p Full HD display, powerful processor, and thousands of books, videos, apps and games — we think families are going to love it.”

The new tablet also comes with a range of controls Amazon says enables parents to control and monitor the content their children have access to.

The controls allow parents to set time limits for different types of content, as well as setting different allowances for weekdays and weekends.

The Kids Edition tablet already runs a special version of Amazon’s operating system that filters out inappropriate content, but also allows parents to set the amount of internet access is possible on the device.

The Learn First feature can also be used to block all entertainment content until educational goals have been met each day.

“We hear from parents how important it is to have the tools they need to make decisions about their child’s screen time,” Mr Beidler said.

“We work hard to provide parents with those tools so they can stay connected to their child’s digital experience, including Fire for Kids parental controls and Parent Dashboard, which make it easy for parents to participate in their child’s activity and adjust tablet settings remotely.”

The Fire HD 10 Kids Edition is the latest in a growing family of child-friendly tablets by Amazon, and also comes in the wake of the firm expanding the powers of its Parent Dashboard, which was recently updated so that adults could remotely control the settings on their child’s device for the first time.
