Singapore airport is trialling facial recognition to speed up boarding process
The system could also be used to locate passengers who have missed the boarding call for their flight.

Singapore’s Changi airport is testing a facial recognition system to locate passengers and help speed up the boarding process.
The Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) system is being trialled at Terminal 4 with the aim to enhance “operational efficiency and raise productivity”.
Passengers will enjoy the flexibility of checking in at their own convenience, without having to wait for counters to open, the airport officials said.

The system scans faces to ID passengers, removing the need for manual identity verification by staff.
A photo of their face is taken and then matched against the picture in their passport.

According to the airport, the system is expected to “yield productivity gains with manpower savings of about 20% expected in the longer term” when FAST is operational across all the terminals.
Changi Airport has been ranked the world’s best airport for six years in a row in a survey by air travel consultancy Skytrax.
