Limes Court Nursery School in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, has asked for permission to expand into an empty in the village’s Limes Court as part of plans to create more places at the popular nursery.

A decision will be made by the City of Wolverhampton Council’s planning committee at a meeting on March 25.

Limes Court Nursery School said the new unit would be transformed into a second pre-school for its eldest children to focus on preparing for primary school.

The expansion would create another 16 early years places, and the nursery says it currently has a waiting list of more than 30 families.

The council’s planners, who have recommended the application and expansion should be approved, said in a report to councillors: “The proposal does not entirely comply with [some] policy, but the benefits of the proposal can be given significant weight.

“On balance, the proposal would not undermine the vibrancy of the centre, and the loss of the retail unit is acceptable in this case.”

The council added: “The proposal would enable the expansion of an existing children’s day nursery that provides a valuable service to the local community.”

Limes Court opened more than 20 years ago and the children’s day nursery was in one of the new units attached to the old Victorian stabling structures to form what was Tettenhall Tots.

The nursery was taken over by Limes Court Nursery School which expanded into another unit four years ago with the most recent proposals seeking to extend into another unit.

The now empty unit was home to a jewellery shop.

13 objections to Wolverhampton nursery plans

A total of 13 objections were made against the expansion saying it would lead to more noise and congestion. The objections also bemoaned the loss of retail space.

The council also received four letters of support.

Limes Court is already home to a range of shops including a beautician, hairdresser, coffee shop, bakery and delicatessen.
