Residents have raised concerns about a lift which keeps breaking down at their blocks of flats.

The lift, at the seven-storey residential building, called Farringdon House in Walsall, breaks down around “every eight weeks”, said one resident.

Housing group Watmos, which maintains the property, said the lift could be out of action until the end of next week.

A spokesman for the group said residents have been offered assistance while repairs are carried out.

Brenda Turner, aged 59, who lives on the fifth floor, is hoping to see a permanent solution to the problem.

She said the lift is more than 20-years-old, adding: “They reckon it breaks down every eight weeks, they just won’t do anything about it.

“The more they repair the lift, the more money it is costing. They could have put a new lift in but they keep passing the buck.”

Some of the residents are disabled, including Debbie Richards, who is a neighbour to Ms Turner.

A spokesman for Watmos said: “The lift at Farringdon House was first identified as having a fault on April 30 and our contractors immediately attended.

“The lift had to be isolated for a repair which is being carried out as a priority with an estimated completion date of the end of next week.

“In the interim the lift regrettably remains out of use and residents have been advised of the breakdown and offered support during this period.

"Our caretakers are always on site daily from 8am until late evening and are providing support to residents.”
