New war memorial to honour Sedgley war heroes
A new war memorial will be installed on the grounds of a village church by November.
The £5,000 memorial is earmarked for land outside the entrance of All Saints' Church in Sedgley.
It is hoped the 1.5-ton monument will be installed before Remembrance Day which falls on November 11.
A remembrance service won't be held at the church this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but wreaths will still be laid.
The memorial, which will be made from marble, will stand at five feet and four inches tall.
It will bear the Sedgley coat of arms alongside the words "we will remember them".
The memorial will be located on a patch of grass near the church's front entrance.
There are further plans to install an information board at a later date detailing soldiers who have fought in wars.
Sedgley councillor Michael Evans said: “It is the intention to erect an information board highlighting all the wars where our brave servicemen gave their lives in the defence of our great country.”
