The unit set to become a drinking establishment

The High Street unit between Superdrug and Tui was previously home to Edison’s, which was launched in 2017, and before that a branch of Chatwins bakery.

Now fresh proposals have been put forward to Stafford Borough Council for a “drinking establishment” in the unit, which is currently vacant according to the planning application.

The application, submitted by Andy Cowan of L and A Property Services Ltd, stated that coffee and alcohol would be served if plans went ahead.

It added: “There are no plans to alter the shop frontage or any structural alterations to the internal building.

“The premises is already equipped with a bar, kitchen and toilet facilities.”

A heritage statement added: The proposed change of use will have minimal/no impact on the building’s appearance and seeks to provide an active frontage on to the street, positively contributing to the vibrant culture in Stone town centre and specifically the High Street.

“Due to minimal/no alteration to the external appearance of the building, we believe that the proposal will not have a detrimental impact on the neighbouring Listed buildings or High Street as a whole.”
