Rachael Heyhoe Flint's former home up for sale for almost £1m
Baroness Rachael Heyhoe Flint’s former home has gone on the market for £925,000.
The detached Edwardian property off Wergs Road in Tettenhall, where the ex-England cricketer lived with her husband Derrick Flint and their family, has been listed for sale by Peter James Property.
Baroness Heyhoe Flint, who was Wolves' vice-president, moved into the property owned by her husband in the 1970s and the family lived there with her stepchildren Simon, Hazel and Rowan and their son, Ben.
Her stepson, Simon, now 62, said the house, called Danescroft, was a “very happy place” for the whole family, while 44-year-old Ben said the house was always full of “energy” with people visiting the home.
Ben, who now lives in Singapore, said: “I lived at Danescroft all my life, until I moved to London and then Singapore. It was our family home for 40 years.
"I have tons of memories of the house and still have lots of photographs – from me playing on the lawn with one of the family Labrador’s through to me graduating from university.
“There was always energy in the house and people coming and going – including Wolves managers.
"It is a lovely old rambling house and I have some of the most nicest memories.
"As children we used to play hide and seek a lot in many areas of the house, including the attics and lofts – the airing cupboard was one of my favourite spots.
“There was also Fairy Lane, which was a little gap at the back of the house where I always believed fairies lived.
"The house just has so much history.
"I have a lot of happy memories growing up with dogs, playing cricket on the lawn – there was always some form of sport going on cricket, billiards and we had a table tennis table in the loft.
“There was a little study which mum used as her office – she took it on as her little bunker and it was wall-to-wall with photos and all little trinkets.
"Her cricket bat which she scored 179 with, which was the highest women’s score then, it was just propped up in the corner of the room.”
Simon added: “My father brought the property in around 1963 just after my second sister was born.
“My father had a prosperous building business at the time and the house doubled up as his office for the first few years.
“My parents divorced and my father married Rachael in the 1970. Danescroft then became our family home.
"By the time the 1970s came, my father with Rachael, they always felt we needed a bigger garden the length of a cricket pitch, and the area was grassed over. The picturesque rose bushes were created into a lawn.
Baroness Heyhoe Flint died in January 2017 aged 77.
