Work starts on demolishing Old Mitre pub
Work has begun on demolishing a former pub building to make way for new homes.
The former Old Mitre pub in Bursnips Road, Essington, has been closed for more than two years.
The building is now being torn down as developers prepare to use the site’s land to build nine two-bedroom apartments.
Fencing has been put up around the dilapidated building, with work to knock the former pub down set to start immanently.
The building appears to have already been gutted out as piles of brickwork lay outside.
The Old Mitre went up for auction in Nottingham, in September last year, at a guide price of more than £275,000.
Planning permission was then granted in 2018 for Leicester-based consultancy company Merrick Platts to build the apartments.
The planning application, put forward on behalf of the company by another Leicester-based business, Architects LE1, also states that there would be cycle and bin store built with the properties.
Further plans include 10 parking bays, one for each property, and a disabled visitor space.
