New medical centre plans revealed for Stourbridge site
A new medical centre could be built under new plans lodged with council bosses.
Revelan Group Limited have submitted plans to Dudley Council for the new medical centre on vacant land in Bradley Road, Stourbridge.
It would include theatre suites, an outpatients department, day case suite and physiotherapy suite along with administration and office space for staff. Car parking will also be provided for patients and staff.
It would also see flood alleviation works carried out to the River Stour, as the site is located in close proximity in flood zones two and three. This will include works to widen the river channel.
The site is currently vacant having been previously occupied by commercial and employment buildings that have since been demolished.
It is not yet known how many jobs would be created.
Wollaston and Stourbridge Town ward councillor Nicolas Barlow said it was great news to see this kind of investment around Stourbridge – but added that the increased level of traffic in that area could add to an already congested A491.
Councillor Barlow said: “I think this is an excellent proposal, revitalising a long-neglected part of Stourbridge.
“Naturally, any development will have to bear in mind the nature of the site being near to the River Stour and the Stourbridge Canal but anything along here is going to be a vast improvement to what is already here.
“One factor we have to consider is the increased level of traffic along dead-end roads in that vicinity and an already congested A491.”
A design and access statement, submitted with the application, states: “The project will aim to integrate with other health services in the Black Country and provide a modern flexible design.
“The hours of operation will be 12 hours a day, six days a week. It will be open 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and closed on Sunday.”
A decision on the application will be made by Dudley Council in the coming months.
