More than 150 new homes planned for former works site
Developer Linden Homes has bought the land for two new housing estates in Wolverhampton.
The developer will build 150 homes on the former site of the Armitage Shanks Tap Works factory off Showell Road in Low Hill, and adjoining land off Fifth Avenue and Broome Road.
The development – to be called Tap Works in homage to the site’s history – will comprise a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes.
It takes the place of the old factory on Showell Road which closed its doors in 2007 and has since been demolished.
An extra 77 homes will be built at a separate development off Great Brickkiln Street, near the Tower and Fort Works industrial estate in Graiseley, and will include a mix of two to five-bedroom properties.
Linda Huntington, head of sales for Linden Homes West Midlands, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Wolverhampton Council to deliver these two significant projects in the city and provide much-needed new housing.
“We have a proud track record of delivering successful regeneration projects and we are looking forward to using our expertise to unlock the potential of these two brownfield sites for residential development.
“Construction work is underway at both sites in Wolverhampton and we look forward to releasing the first homes for sale in the near future.”
The developments in Wolverhampton form part of wider regeneration work going on throughout the city, including a £132 million investment in local transport services and new office and retail space creating up to 2,250 jobs in the city.
A total of 40 of the homes will be sold as council houses for rent, with the remainder as market housing.
The show homes opened at the end of last month, for people to view, and a few properties are already close to completion.
Deputy leader of the council Peter Bilson said it was an 'exciting' time for the house building in the city.
He added: "There are a host of projects springing up to benefit everyone.
"Work on this site supports the house building programme and will deliver quality homes for all."
Both developments being built by Linden Homes are expected to be complete by the end of 2020.
