Cradley Heath industrial units to make way for housing

A masterplan to transform a run-down Cradley Heath industrial site into 350 new homes has moved a step closer - with old factory units set to be bulldozed.

The development has been earmarked for Woods Lane, near the town's train station.

An application has been lodged with Sandwell Council to knock down units formerly used by F&L Smith and Sons and Station Works as well as Judge House.

A total of 351 homes will eventually be built on the site as part of the major scheme to change the face of Cradley Heath.

The authority has been handed more than £5 million from the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership in support of the housing scheme.

Existing businesses on the site are expected to be relocated.

A new link road would also be built for the major development, which will span a nine-acre site.
