Plans to build a mammoth 400-plus home estate in Blakenall have been rubber-stamped by Walsall Council.

The scheme, put forward by whg housing association, which earmarks land at Goscote Lane, was approved by the authority's planning committee on Thursday on the back of development officers recommending approval.

It brings something of a saga surrounding the plans to an end after they were originally given the green light by the same body back in April only for the applicant forced to resubmit the 426-home scheme over an issue to do with uneven land.

Prior to the meeting whg confirmed work would start 'imminently' once it was approved.

It forms the next phase of the £88 million Goscote Lane Corridor regeneration programme which is the biggest regeneration in whg's history.
