Homes in pipeline on former Wolverhampton pub land
A former pub site in Wolverhampton will be transformed into housing under new plans submitted to the city council.
Bromford Housing Association wants to revamp the old Wood Hayes Pub site in Wood End Road into 14 flats for adults with learning disabilities, and office space.
The pub closed in 2005 and stood derelict for more than three years before it was pulled down following an arson attack in 2008.
Now a planning application for the scheme has been submitted to Wolverhampton council.
It is hoped the development will be completed by June next year.
Josie Bishton, new business manager at Bromford, said: "We have recently exchanged contracts for the purchase of unused derelict land on the outskirts of Wood Hayes.
"We plan to build one of our MyPlace schemes on this land to provide much-needed supported housing and will be making an investment of around £1.5 million.
"Built by our in-house construction team there will be 14 self-contained, one-bedroom apartments, each with its own wet room, kitchen/living area and bedroom, which will be ready for customers to move into in June 2017."
Under proposals there will also be a communal hub on site with a lounge, meeting room and kitchen, providing a social area for customers and their friends and family.
Ms Bishton added: "The communal hub can be used for training, employment advice and various events for customers. Access to these activities will help people living at the scheme identify and achieve their aspirations, build new relationships and reduce their dependency on other services.
"We have been working with Wolverhampton Council who have already identified people who are living in a residential care setting, who we would be able to provide a more independent style of living for in our new MyPlace scheme.
"It will offer people with long-term support needs safe and secure housing with dedicated on-site care and support, enabling customers to take more control of their lives."
