Village homes plan rejected

Councillors have rejected plans to build 25 new homes in a Midlands village.

Proposals were put forward to build the homes on land off the B4386 in Worthen, close to the village's border with Brockton near Shifnal.

But councillors refused to approve the plans, saying the site was not in a suitable location, it was not a balanced site, it was not sustainable and would impact on the local area.

They also said it went against the wishes of the parish council, who have recently put together a parish plan outlining how they would like to see development progress in the town.

The plan for the homes includes a mix of bungalows and two and three bedroom detached and semi-detached houses.

It also included plans for a footpath leading from Worthen along the B4386 to local amenities including the village school, with a pedestrian crossing on the road that would not only provide safe access for pedestrians, but also act as a way to slow down traffic on the road.

The plans were objected to by Worthen with Shelve Parish Council and received 30 objections from local residents.

Speaking against the proposal, Councillor Heather Kidd for Chirbury and Worthen, said: "I am very concerned this will be the tip of the iceberg.

"This is against the character of development in the village, where it is single houses along either side of the road."
