The Hatherton Arms has been earmarked for conversion and an extension to create apartments and flats.

Walsall Council's planning committee gave its approval to the plans last night.

During the same meeting it was revealed controversial plans to fill in three mine shafts and build a bund along a canal to create a piece of land for grazing have been withdrawn.

The proposals sparked anger from residents who said months of work would make their lives a misery.
