Seventy new apartments for older people are to be created on the site of a former nursing home in Staffordshire in a £9.5 million project.

Work will start to develop the former Silverdene site at Penkridge in April after South Staffordshire Housing Association secured funding for the development.

Plans to redevelop the site will see 70 extra care apartments built for people, predominantly over-55.

Funding will come from the Homes and Communities Agency and South Staffordshire Council.

The development of one and two bedroom apartments will provide flexible care services to help people live independently.

Detailed facilities to be provided are yet to be finalised but will include a restaurant, lounge, coffee shop and hairdressing salon.
