Moving to Cannock

The town of Cannock, with its long history of coal mining, sits in the county of Staffordshire - with a population of around 28,000.

It lies just south of Cannock Chase, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which consists of mixed countryside providing a remarkable range of landscapes and wildlife, including around 800 deer and several endangered birds.

The town centre itself has a wealth of facilities including pubs, bars, nightclubs, retail outlets, leisure centre and a small ice rink

Transport:

Cannock is well connected to the rest of the West Midlands, being close to the M6 and M54 motorways and around half-an-hour drive from Wolverhampton, Telford and Birmingham.

There are also a number of regular local bus routes which also extend to Walsall, Lichfield and Stafford. An hourly train service runs to Birmingham New Street.

What the people say:

Lisa Heminsley said on her Twitter page that life in Cannock was "easy and predictable, but the stunning Cannock Chase lifts your spirits every time.

She added that the "worst thing about living in Cannock - you have to use the M6 carpark to go anywhere south."

Gail Hurd agreed on Twitter saying that her favourite thing about Cannock was the Chase, but that there is a lack of good shops and restaurants and that you have to go out of town for better choice.

Schools:

Primary: Cannock has a number of primary schools in the area. The largest, Five Ways Primary School, holds an 'Outstanding' rating from Ofsted. St Peter's CofE, Gorsemoor, St Luke's CofE and Pye Green Valley are all considered 'Good' schools.

Secondary: Two Cannock secondary schools are rated by Ofsted as 'Good' - Cannock Chase High School and Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School. Kingsmead Technology College, Blake Valley Technology College and Norton Canes High School are all considered 'Satisfactory.'

Property prices:

The average house price paid for a property in Cannock over the past three years is £136,772. The average property values have dipped by 15.7 per cent in that time - an average monetary loss of £25,225.
