Work has begun on a £4.5 million housing development on the site of a former Bewdley school.

Wyre Forest Community Housing is building 46 low-cost homes on land off Shaw Hedge Road, Wribbenhall.

The project has been partly funded by a £2.4million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.

The development will consist of two, three and four bedroom homes, which will be available for rent and to buy.

Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier was invited to a ceremony to mark the start of work last week. Wyre Forest Community Housing's managing director Yvonne Leishman said: "We are delighted that work is under way, thanks to the support and funding from the HCA.

"We are particularly keen to help families to save energy costs so we have made sure that the new homes are extremely energy efficient.

"Of the 46 homes, 35 will be for rent and 11 will be for shared ownership, aimed at helping first time buyers on lower incomes to move into home ownership."
