Walsall flats still to be built after five-year wait

Proposals for 18 flats to be built on a plot of land in Walsall are no nearer to fruition after more than five years since councillors gave the scheme the green light.

Land owner Walton Homes said it had no immediate plans to build on the property, in Bescot Road, Pleck.

The Lichfield-based company got planning permission to build 18 one and two bedroomed flats at the site near Slaney Road and the Walsall to Wolverhampton railway line in January 2005.

Walton Homes new homes sales coordinator Helen Rollason said in the short term the business had its sights on working on three other developments in Tamworth, Rugeley, and Armitage with Handsacre near Lichfield.

But she said the company was due to review the position at the Bescot Road site soon.

But Pleck ward representative Councillor Harbans Sarohi said it was time for the homes developer to erect the properties.

"The sooner they develop the land the better because some of the residents living near it have remarked that it is not so nice for them to look at," Councillor Sarohi added.
