A £1million retirement complex in Brownhills with its own shop, restaurant and hairdressers is to welcome its first residents in September.
Knaves Court has been built at the gateway to Brownhills on the High Street and the finishing touches are now being done before its expected opening around September 13.
It is the third Extra Care scheme to be provided under a £165 million project to create modern new housing for older people across the Walsall borough.
Knaves Court will provide 60 one and two bedroom apartments for rent or shared ownership, and will also boast a hairdressing salon, restaurant and shop.
It has been built on land which had become a blot on the landscape since 14-storey tower block Waine House was demolished in 2004.
The scheme will create 15 jobs, as the retirement village will be staffed at all times to give residents 24-hour assistance if needed. It will be run by Housing 21, which manages 17,500 sheltered housing apartments across the country.
Housing 21 staff will be joined by soon-to-be tenants and representatives of Walsall Council for a tree planting on July 14 at the site.
Deborah Wright, who will be manager when it opens, said: "It is exciting to see Knaves court nearing completion and I am sure the tree will be a delightful addition to the garden for many years to come."
