A plan to raise rents to improve the city's "unsustainable" social housing spending position will go under the microscope at the city council's scrutiny board next week prior to a full report going before cabinet.
If agreed, the 2.7 per cent rise will meet the maximum level at which social housing rents can be raised in 2025/26.
The cap is set annually by the Government, which allows for a 1.7 per cent inflationary increase and an additional one per cent in the coming financial year.
According to figures in a document set to be presented to the scrutiny committee, income from social housing rents has "not kept pace with costs", with increased pressure from fire and building regulatory programmes adding to cost pressures on the authority's housing revenue account.
