'No draconian cuts' call over coronavirus crisis
Opposition councillors have called on council chiefs in Stafford to ensure no "draconian cuts" are made to services as a result of coronavirus.
Labour members on Stafford Borough Council have asked the Conservative-run authority to ensure people in the area are helped as much as possible.
The submission, made by group leader Councillor Aidan Godfrey, said: "It is vital the most vulnerable in our society should not be made to suffer more because of the crisis we find ourselves in.
"Of course, the council needs financial help from central Government, and it is hoped this will be forthcoming.
More Covid-19 coverage:
"We do not underestimate the scale of the task before us but the local authority must be the glue that binds our borough’s whole recovery together."
The submission will be discussed at a meeting on Thursday.
