MP vows to 'clean up' Black Country town
An MP has vowed to "clean up" a Black Country town where anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping have become rife.
Suzanne Webb is preparing to lay out an action plan for Lye, which she says will finally address issues of under-investment which have blighted the town for years.
She is set to meet with bosses at Dudley Council and members of the public to put together a plan to regenerate the High Street and surrounding areas.
Lye is one of a number of towns across the borough that will see new CCTV cameras installed by the authority in a bid to clamp down on fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.
Stourbridge MP Ms Webb said: “It is evident that Lye has been under-invested in over some time. There are various issues because of this, some are simple such as the need for more maintenance in the High Street, whereas others are more complex such as the need for real investment and regeneration in the area.
“I would like to see an action and investment plan for Lye developed in conjunction with residents. Working together with the community I hope that we can achieve positive outcomes for the area around the High Street and the wider area."
Welcoming the new CCTV cameras, she said: "Residents in Lye want action to tackle the issues that are being raised daily.
"Fly-tipping is clearly an issue which I have seen first-hand during recent visits to. CCTV is an important step to combat this illegal behaviour."
Residents and traders in Lye have started their own community clean up operation in a bid to reduce the amount of rubbish piling up in the town's streets.
The MP has vowed to prioritise regenerating parts of Stourbridge in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with projects in the town centre and Cradley also in the pipeline.
