MPs gave the green light to the UK's first ever virtual parliament

Marco Longhi, the Conservative MP for Dudley North, spoke via the web app Zoom during Wales Questions to ask whether the whole UK was getting the support it needs during the coronavirus crisis.

The Commons carried out its first ever day of virtual parliament on Wednesday, with Dominic Raab standing in for Boris Johnson to face new Labour leader Keir Starmer at PMQs.

A small number of MPs were present in the chamber while others asked questions via video link.

Mr Longhi, who celebrated his birthday yesterday, became the first MP to ask a question via Zoom.

He said he was relieved that the technology went to plan. "I thought I was making history by becoming the first ever Marco to sit in Parliament, as mentioned in my maiden speech, but this marks a huge new development," he added.
