Bid to limit door-to-door charity collections across Cannock
A new charitable collections policy could be brought in across Cannock Chase in an attempt to stop the rise in bogus charity collections.
Cannock Chase District Council's licensing and public protections committee will discuss the draft policy today at its meeting.
A report going to the committee says that there has been an increase in the number of bogus house-to-house collections in the last few years.
The policy would separate the district into four areas: Cannock, Hednesford, Rugeley and Norton Canes, and would only allow one house-to-house collection in each area at any one time.
Any organisation would only be allowed to collect a maximum of six times a year.
It adds: "The main intention is to regulate the house to house collections which take place on the district but it also confirms our existing procedures in respect of cash and direct debit charitable collections within out town centres."
