Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier sacked as reshuffle continues
Mark Garnier has been sacked as International Trade Minister as Theresa May's reshuffle continues into a second day.
The Wyre Forest MP said he was 'very sad' to have lost his job but was looking forward to supporting the Prime Minister from the backbenches.
Mr Garnier was the subject of a Cabinet inquiry at the end of last year after he asked his former assistant to buy a sex toy and called her 'sugar tits'.
Garnier did not deny the accusations about the events in 2010, but the inquiry found that he had not breached the ministerial code.
He announced that he had been sacked this morning, tweeting: "Very sad to have lost my job at the Department for International Trade, but looking forward to supporting Theresa May's Government from the backbenches."
Mr Garnier has been the MP for Wyre Forest since 2010 and was appointed to his newly created junior ministerial role by Mrs May in July 2016.
He backed the Remain campaign in the EU referendum, but admitted in October last year that 'doom-mongers like himself' had been proved wrong.
Yesterday Patrick McLoughlin stood down as Conservative Party Chairman in what has been billed as an underwhelming reshuffle thus far.
