The Minister for Small Business and Stourbridge MP is said to be in line for a promotion as Theresa May prepares for a Cabinet reshuffle next month.

And according to fellow Black Country MPs Ms James would be a perfect fit for a position on the top table.

Dudley South's Tory MP Mike Wood ran Ms James' campaign when she was first elected to Parliament in 2010, and also served as her constituency chairman.

He told the Express & Star: "Not only is she a dedicated constituency MP, but she is also exceptionally talented in her work on a national level.

"It is clear that she has got a very bright future in government. Whether that happens in the coming months or over the long term remains to be seen."

Eddie Hughes, who was elected as the Conservative MP for Walsall North last year, was also part of Ms James' campaign at the 2010 general election.

"She has been incredibly supportive since I got into Parliament," he said.

"Margot is an absolute superstar and I think that despite the fact that she has been quietly rising through the ranks, she has not changed in her attitude towards other MPs.

"She is always thorough and business-like and as far as I am concerned she would be an ideal candidate for a role in the Cabinet."

Ms James is one of seven women MPs reportedly being considered for Cabinet positions, with Mrs May said to be contemplating correcting the current gender imbalance that sees 16 of the top 21 jobs occupied by men.

The 60-year-old was born in Coventry and served as a councillor in Kensington & Chelsea before her election to Parliament in 2010.

She is the first openly lesbian MP in the Tory party and has worked as an entrepreneur in the healthcare industry.

She was a whip before being appointed the Minister for Small Business in July 2016.

As part of her role she has responsibility for the Post Office, and on a local level successfully campaigned to see a branch restored to Quarry Bank last year.
