UKIP councillor defects to Tories

Cannock's UKIP deputy leader has left the party to join the Conservatives.

Councillor Martyn Buttery, who represents Hawks Green Ward said that he believes his new party is 'the only team that can move us forward'.

He will be joined by another UKIP councillor, Stephanie Whitehouse, who represents Etching Hill and The Heath Ward.

Councillor Buttery said: "It was the correct decision to make.

"I want to be part of a hardworking group that works together as a team in order to move Cannock Chase forward.

"I believe that the Conservatives are the only team that can move us forward in the future and I was delighted with the warm welcome that I received."

Commenting on the swith, Amanda Milling MP said: “It is fantastic to welcome Martyn and Stephanie to the party, I have seen first-hand some of the community work Martyn does for the area, including the work promoting Rugeley Rifle Club who mentor future Olympic champions.

"I look forward to working with both of them to help make Cannock Chase a better place.”
