In a visit to the town to campaign for Walsall South Conservative candidate James Bird campaign, Mr Clark visited Perfection Foods based in Pleck on Walsall Enterprise Park.

The business has recently expanded, employing around 40 people whilst exporting its goods to 21 countries across the globe including South Korea and ambitions to expand in to Australia.

Mr Clark said, "It was a great pleasure to visit Perfection Foods in Walsall.

"The company is a great example of the kind of energetic, ambitious and innovative business we want to encourage and support through our modern industrial strategy.

"Not only has Perfection Foods grown into a highly successful, award-winning business in the UK, creating many new jobs in the Midlands, but the impressive growth of their export business and search for new markets demonstrates how British businesses are seizing opportunities around the world."

Mr Bird, who visited the cake manufacturer with the minister, said: “Walsall needs a visible local member of parliament to champion local businesses and support them to seize the opportunities of emerging export markets after Brexit. Supporting local businesses has been at the heart of my campaign during this General Election and if elected I will ensure Walsall businesses are positioned well to make a success of Brexit. Perfection Foods is a great example of a business taking up the opportunities that Brexit offers."
