General Election 2017: Philip Hammond tells Express & Star Conservatives are 'quietly confident of victory'
Philip Hammond was in Wolverhampton today, telling the Express & Star he was 'quietly confident' of a Tory victory in Thursday's General Election.
The Chancellor visited the Star's Queen Street offices for an exclusive interview, covering everything from Brexit to counter-terrorism.
Mr Hammond said he was not concerned about opinion polls showing the Tory lead over Labour narrowing over recent weeks.
He said they were 'often not worth the paper they are printed on' and added: "We are quietly confident.
"We are seeing people who voted Labour all their lives telling us they will vote for Theresa May because they want to ensure we get a good Brexit deal and then we build on that deal to cement Britain's global future."
