West Midlands politicians praise emergency services with tributes paid after London attacks
Politicians from across the West Midlands have spoken out about the London terror attacks.
They took to social media to share their thoughts and give their sympathies to those affected.
Pat McFadden, Labour candidate for Wolverhampton South East, was among those to share his views, saying: "Terrible news from London. We must stand strong in defence of our society and against the ideology that justifies these attacks."
He added: “This is terrible news and coming so soon after Manchester it shows the extent of the terrorist threat we face.
"Our police and security services are fighting this threat every day and we should be grateful for the quick and decisive armed response from the police which killed the terrorists involved in the London attack.
"My thoughts and prayers are with the victims.
"In the wake of this terrible loss of life we have to stand strong in defence of our free society and against the ideology of hate which justifies these attacks on innocent people.”
James Morris, Conservative candidate for Halesowen & Rowley Regis: "Thoughts are with the victims and families of those affected by the dreadful scenes last night."
Margot James, Conservative candidate for Stourbridge, said: "Heartfelt sympathy to all affected by the terrible attack in London, the bravery and effectiveness of the security forces was awe inspiring."
Michael Fabricant, Conservative candidate for Lichfield said: ""We are doing this for Allah" they shouted. Within 8 minutes, all 3 terrorists were shot dead. Our emergency services were quick & brave.
"The PM is meeting COBRA, senior police and intelligence officials in one of the Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms.
"Response was far faster than eight minutes. Final conclusion took eight mins."
Ukip's Paul Nuttall released a statement confirming that the party would not be suspending its General Election campaigning in light of the terror attacks, because "it's what these cowards want us to do."
Responding to this, Bill Etheridge, Ukip West Midlands MEP and Ukip councillor for the Sedgley ward said: "No suspension of democracy in the face of terrorist attacks on freedom . We carry on in defiance of the loathsome evil that is attacking us."
The attacks on Saturday night saw pedestrians were targeted on London Bridge before the attackers stabbed a police officer and revellers with 12-inch knives near Borough Market.
Seven people have so far been reported dead following the attacks, with 48 injured and three suspects killed.
