MP for Wolverhampton South East, Pat McFadden, has organised the event with the Jo Cox Foundation to promote community cohesion.

Mrs Cox was shot and stabbed to death on the streets of her Batley and Spen constituency in June last year.

Mr McFadden has invited residents, schools and community groups to bake a cake, biscuit or dessert and have it judged by an expert panel.

The panel includes Masterchef finalist from Wolverhampton, Dennice McKinnon as well as Signal 107's Dicky Dodd, the new mayor and city councillors such as Councillor Linda Leach of Bilston North.

Mr McFadden said: "I knew Jo Cox. She worked in the office next to mine at Portcullis House in in Westminster.

"I think the whole country was affected when she was so brutally killed last year.

"I think part of her message – that we have more in common than that which divides us is a very important one. When she died, the Jo Cox Foundation was set up to promote that message and to support the charities that Jo supported throughout her life.

"So we are holding the Bake Off event to raise money for the Foundation, but also to bring the community of Wolverhampton South East together."

The MP is urging church and community groups as well as individuals to sign up for the Bake Off. The event takes place on June 16 at Bilston Town Hall. Entry costs £5 and all proceeds will go to the Jo Cox Foundation. For details call 01902405762 or visit patmcfadden.com.
