Walsall boundary changes are absurd, says councillor

A Walsall Councillor has hit out at the proposed boundary changes for the borough, calling them 'absurd'.

Conservative Councillor Rose Martin also called for a consultation event to be held in Walsall, with none currently planned for the area.

She argues that the borough is the worst hit in the West Midlands under the plans, therefore an event should be held in Walsall.

Under proposals David Winnick's Walsall North seat will be abolished, with parts of it amalgamated into three new seats: Walsall Central; Wednesfield and Willenhall; and Aldridge, Brownhills and Bloxwich. Birmingham's Erdington constituency will also come right up to the Longhorn Pub on Sutton Road.

Ms Martin said: "One of my concerns is that there does not seem to be a consultation event in Walsall for the residents. There will be ones in Birmingham in Stafford but not Walsall when it is one of the worst areas affected."

"My second concern is that the boundary with Erdington comes right up to the Longhorn pub and onto the Arboretum's border. Some people in the Erdington constituency will be closer to Walsall town centre than Erdington town centre!

"Also is the Erdington MP going to be that bothered about what happens that side of the constituency?"
