Mahboob Hussain was suspended from the party while allegations into land deals involving council-owned properties were investigated by police. The probe ended without any charges being brought.

Mr Hussain, a former Oldbury councillor, told the Express & Star that he received a letter from Labour this week confirming his suspension had been lifted. He had previously threatened the Labour Party with legal action.

The Labour Party has called off next week's AGM and leadership election. Acting leader Steve Eling, Ian Jones and Yvonne Davies are candidates to replace Darren Cooper, who died in March. Mr Hussain said he has 'no interest whatsoever' in the position, but wants to have his 'rightful say' in who leads the council.
