Ex-Wolverhampton City Council leader Neville Patten to retire after term
Former Wolverhampton City Council leader Neville Patten is to retire as a councillor in May, it has been announced.
The opposition Conservative leader will stand down from his seat in the Bushbury North ward at the election and will be replaced as leader afterwards.
Councillor Patten, who turns 73 next week, said he had decided he was too old to carry on and serve another four year term.
He led the council from 2008 to 2010 when the authority was run by the Conservatives in an alliance with the Liberal Democrats. Councillor Patten was first elected to the authority in 1987.
Councillor Patten said: "I'm standing down at the election after which the Conservatives in Wolverhampton will choose a new group leader.
"I'm telling my group that we need to keep moving forward, keep our eye on the job and do the best we can for Wolverhampton."
