I have nothing more to say! MP Andrew Mitchell tight-lipped over Plebgate

He is the politician at the centre of a scandal engulfing three Midland police forces but Andrew Mitchell was firmly tight-lipped over 'Plebgate' during a visit to Willenhall last night.

Mr Mitchell refused to be drawn on the row and accusations that three officers lied about what he told them in an interview. Other than to express gratitude to the chief constables in the West Midlands, West Mercia and Warwickshire who have apologised, he remained silent on the matter.

The Conservative MP for Sutton Coldfield told the Express & Star: "I am very grateful to the three chief constables for their apology to me and my family, and as they have requested I would be pleased to meet with them."

The former Chief Whip was asked whether he would like to return to the cabinet. He replied: "I really don't have anything to add to what I've already said."

He gave the same answer when asked about how the Plebgate row – in which he was accused of calling officers 'plebs' which he denies – had been handled.

He visited Willenhall Community Hub to give a talk on international aid and development.
