Stourbridge is a key battleground seat as Conservative MP Margot James has a majority of just 5,164 over Labour.

The Stourbridge North Councillor was being selected today as thousands of people across the country are celebrating the 65th birthday of the NHS.

Labour's new parliamentary candidate for Stourbridge, Councillor Lowe said:

"I am hugely honoured to have been selected as Labour's candidate for Stourbridge. I grew up locally and live locally, what happens here matters to me.

"One of my top priorities is protecting the NHS. I worked locally as a nurse for 10 years and care deeply about our health service.

"I've spoken to both patients and health workers in Stourbridge and they've all told me they are worried about the future of the NHS. I know first-hand how amazing our NHS is but it needs protecting so that future generations are able to benefit from our incredible health service.

He added: "I am going to be campaigning hard to win for Stourbridge, because we can't trust the Tories with our NHS."

West Midlands Labour Party spokesperson Richard Costello said:

"Stourbridge is in need of change and Pete Lowe is just the person to bring it.

"Pete will be a fantastic Parliamentary candidate. We're very proud of Pete. He has what it takes to win the General Election for Labour in 2015.

"Stourbridge is a key battleground seat that Labour needs to win if we are to form the One Nation Government and bring about the change of course that the country needs.

"Pete is a highly respected campaigner who will take the fight to the Conservatives in Stourbridge."
