Former MP Rob Marris selected as Labour candidate
Former Wolverhampton MP Rob Marris has been selected to try to win the seat back for the Labour party.
He lost his seat to Conservative Paul Uppal in the 2010 election. Mr Marris, who served two terms and was named backbencher of the year by his colleagues in 2008, was selected over the weekend by Labour party members in the constituency.
The 58-year-old former solicitor said: "I am delighted to have been selected as Labour's candidate. I am honoured that the members of Wolverhampton South West have put their trust in me to regain the seat at the next General Election.
"Between now and election day I will work tirelessly to make sure that a Labour Government is elected. Wolverhampton South West is a key marginal seat. The Tory majority is a slender 691 votes.
Mr Uppal was recently chosen to be part of a special policy unit that advises the Prime Minister.
