Tonight: Live updates on meeting to decide fate of Carvers' gas tankers
A decision to relocate potentially explosive gas tankers from Carvers' Building Supplies in Wolverhampton to South Staffordshire is set to be made tonight.
Carvers is proposing to move the tanks from its Little's Lane base to Gravelly Way, Four Ashes. The liquid petroleum had been stored at its city centre site legally but Wolverhampton City Council granted permission for a nearby £40 million student village to be built, despite being within a blast zone.
This led to a row between the city council and the Health and Safety Executive that went all the way to the Supreme Court.
Express & Star reporter Adam Thompson will be live tweeting updates from tonight's meeting at South Staffordshire Council's headquarters in Codsall, with the authority expected to give the plans the green light.
