A snapshot of Walsall through the years

4. Work had begun to turn Cannock Market Place into a paved walkway in September, 1988. Sewage pipes needed to be replaced at the start of the £250,000 scheme, which complemented a £30 million new shopping centre.

7. The New Hall at High Green, Cannock, was to go under the auctioneer's hammer in January 1962. It had been left in trust for public use, housing various societies, but soaring overheads meant it had to close. The property included two houses, a caretaker's flat and an old library building.
8. There aren't many genuine five ways junctions left these days, but there was one in High Green, Cannock, pictured here in March, 1973. People called for traffic lights and a roundabout to be installed, but they were rejected by the highways authority. The area has now changed almost beyond recognition as a result of major redevelopment schemes.
