Stan's the man. Although not available, of course.

With Wolves in a perilous position in the relegation zone, will there ever be a manager to touch the golden glory days that Stan Cullis brought to Molineux?

But before we get too misty-eyed, we have to remember that Stan was sacked too. In fact, this is the 60th anniversary year of the board controversially giving Wolves' most successful manager ever the boot, despite his 30 years' service to the club both as a player and in the managerial hot seat.

And it hurt. Another great, Bill Shankly, wrote in his autobiography: "When he left Wolverhampton, I think his heart was broken."

But as Wolves fans fret and look to a new man to steady the ship after the departure of Gary O'Neil, let's try to lighten the mood with a warm glow of nostalgia. We've dipped into the Star's picture archive to share in a couple of Stan's professional and personal highlights.
