Volvo announces new tech upgrades for its cars in 2025
The firm will introduce software improvements and easier EV charging across its product portfolio.
Volvo has announced that it will introduce new tech upgrades to its vehicle line-up this year.
Models such as the XC40, EX40, EC40, V60 and V90 will benefit from the firm’s Volvo Cars UX interface.
Volvo Cars UX enables the driver to personalise the vehicle’s infotainment screen to allow for the most frequently used features to be accessed quickly, via the main menu.
The Swedish firm has also said that it will deliver the improved tech to millions of Volvo cars through their Google Built-in functions via an over-the-air update.
Erik Severinson, chief product and strategy officer at Volvo Cars, said: “By introducing our new-generation Volvo Car UX across our line-up, we’re working towards the aim that every Volvo model – regardless of platform and powertrain – should offer a similar user experience, providing our customers with more choices.’
“This roll-out is in line with our strategy to make our cars even better over time with over-the-air software updates and goes hand in hand with our ambition to keep investing in our entire car line-up.”
The electric EX30 and EX90 models will get upgraded Snapdragon Cockpit platforms, to make their existing Android Auto-based infotainment systems faster and more responsive. The combustion-powered XC90 will also get this update later this year.
An upgrade for EV owners called ‘Plug and Charge’ will be added too. This is an authentication and billing system which works through the Volvo Cars app or Google Maps. It can identify your car and payment as soon as the vehicle is connected to a charger. Volvo, however, is yet to announce the specific UK models compatible with this technology.
