A Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S has just achieved 585 miles on a single charge at the Nardo race track in southern Italy.

The car was being driven by Volkswagen driving experience pro drivers, with track temperatures ranging from five to 15 degrees – perfect for EV batteries.

The 7.7-mile race track allows a wide range of traffic scenarios and endurance tests to be simulated effectively.

The vehicle in question was fitted with the standard technology package and comes with an 86kWh battery pack and electric motor that pumps out 207bhp. On the test, the car averaged speeds of 18mph which is typical of rush hour traffic in large cities– plus, no technical modifications were made to the car.

To achieve this efficiency, the car has a very low drag coefficient of just 0.23cd – the same as Tesla’s very aerodynamic Model 3.

Martin Sander, member of the board of management for sales, marketing and aftersales at Volkswagen, said: “We are seeing a positive trend in incoming orders in Europe and are currently selling more ID.7 models than Passat. This shows that the ID.7 is a meaningful all-electric addition to the brand’s product portfolio and, in addition to our successful Passat, is also suitable for long distance drivers and as a company car.”

The Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S is priced from £55,480 and rises to £62,010 for the four-wheel-drive GTX 4Motion model.
