Nissan upgrades X-Trail range with two new engines
Updated SUV sees 1.3-litre petrol and 1.7-litre diesel units replace existing engine line-up
Nissan has updated its X-Trail SUV with two new engines that replace the existing units and simplify the car’s range.
The X-Trail is now available with a choice of 1.3-litre petrol or 1.7-litre diesel engines – both four-cylinder turbocharged units. They aim to improve on the old 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre engines in terms of refinement, CO2 and fuel economy.
The petrol is offered only in front-wheel-drive form paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Nissan claims that this X-Trail will return 34.9mpg and emit 145g/km of CO2.
It’s the first time the X-Trail has received a dual-clutch ’box, which it has inherited from its smaller Qashqai sibling.
The diesel is the more efficient option in the range. It develops 147bhp and is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission – although it can be specified with two- or four-wheel drive. The former will return 43.5mpg and emit 137g/km, while the 4WD model returns 42.2mpg and emits 151g/km.
The new X-Trail range starts from £25,795 for the new diesel engine in 2WD form. The four-wheel-drive model commands a £3,200 premium over this, while petrol models kick off from £26,950. Both engines are Euro 6d-Temp-compliant, avoiding an additional four per cent surcharge for company car users.
