Rugged Mitsubishi Triton Absolute concept hits Bangkok Motor Show

Souped-up truck is built around the concept of “Absolutely Beyond Tough”

Mitsubishi has unveiled a new concept version of its Triton pick-up truck at the Bangkok Motor Show.

The model, which is named the L200 in the UK, has been given a seriously rugged makeover focused on improving its off-road prowess.

To that end, it features a set of huge alloy wheels wrapped in hardcore off-road tyres for greater ground clearance and grip. Squared-off wheel arches are finished in carbon fibre, and widened to fit over the enormous wheels.

Carbon fibre is somewhat of a theme with the Triton Absolute – it also features a carbon tailgate and front bumper.

To protect the load bed, there’s a tonneau cover with grab handles, and increasing visibility (as well as upping the cool factor by about 100 points) are a set of roof-mounted LED floodlights.

It’s not all about the visual tweaks, though. The Triton Absolute is fitted with a raised suspension set-up, giving it around five centimetres of extra ground clearance compared to the standard model. Protective underbody cladding should also save fragile components from damage.

Mitsubishi hasn’t revealed any details of the Triton Absolute’s powertrain, which suggests it’s the same 178bhp 2.4-litre diesel engine as the standard truck. The concept model is currently on display at the Bangkok Motor Show, though it’s unlikely to preview a production model – especially for Europe.
