Audi brings 40 TDI engine to three new models
New 2.0-litre TDI engine joins A6, A6 Avant and A7 ranges, with deliveries beginning in September
Audi has introduced the 40 TDI engine to three new cars — the A6, A6 Avant and A7.
The 2.0-litre diesel engine is linked up to a mild hybrid setup in all three models and sends power through a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It produces 201bhp in each car.
Initially, it’ll only be available with front-wheel-drive, though Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system will be an option for each model at a later date.
Efficiency is the focus of this powertrain. In the A6, Audi claims it’ll achieve 62.8mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 117g/km of CO2. For the Avant, that dips a little to 60.1mpg with a rise in emissions to 124g/km while the A7 can match that MPG, but emits marginally less CO2 at 122g/km.
Pricing for the new 40 TDI models starts at £38,640 for the A6, £40,740 in Avant guise and £47,140 for A7 models. Deliveries of both the A6 and A6 Avant 40 TDI will begin in September, and the A7 will follow in November.
Each car has seen a new generation in recent months. The second-generation A7 was introduced in late 2017, while the A6 followed in early 2018 — with the Avant launching just after.
